De Jong, Jerome B. (1920-2002). Papers, 1860-1997.

Hope College Class of 1941; Western Theological Seminary Class of 1944; attended Union Theological Seminary, New York University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1954, and Northwestern College. He served as pastor in Reformed Churches in Lodi, New Jersey, Paterson, New Jersey, Chicago, Illinois, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and South Holland, Illinois. He also served on a number of committees of the RCA: Board of Education, Central Youth Committee, Synod’s Christian Action Commission, Synod’s Committee on Fraternal Relations with other denominations, Synod’s Theological Commission, American Calvinistic Fellowship Group, and World Radio Missionary Fellowship. He was also president of Chicago Synod in 1958 and president of Michigan Synod from 1963-1967. Author of a book entitled A Certain Knowledge regarding confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He also wrote a catechism book for the RCA for young people in grades 10-12 entitled “God Answers Questions,” and a book of sermon outlines “A Spiritual Pilgrimage.” He also served as conference speaker at Gull Lake, Boca Raton, Moody Bible Institute, Central Pennsylvania Bible Conference, and Pensacola Theological Institute, and as visiting professor of Practical Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. Collection contains his sermons written and preached by De Jong in the churches he served as pastor and are arranged according to the book of the Bible on which they were based. In addition to the sermons there are a number of articles and pamphlets on various topics written by De Jong and others, and commencement addresses given at Northwestern College and Trinity Christian College.
