The William Hillegonds papers include a biographical file, correspondences, newspaper clippings, press releases, and photographs. Also included are sermons which he preached while he was chaplain at Hope College and an audiotape cassette of a sermon he delivered at First Reformed Church of Chatham, New York on October 10, 1993.

Biography
William Hillegonds served in World War II in the European Theater of Operations from November, 1942, until 1945. After the war, he attended Hope College, graduating magna cum laude in 1949. Hillegonds went on to graduate from Western Theological Seminary in 1951. He received an S.T.M sum cum laude from the University of Dubuque in 1972. He served at several churches before he came to Hope College in 1965 to be the chaplain. Hillegonds left Hope in 1978 to assume a pastorate in Pella, Iowa.
He married Elizabeth Romaine, who was also a Hope College graduate. Mrs. Hillegonds was very active with the campus ministry and other community activities. The Hillegonds had two children, Tim and Paul.
Reverend Doctor William C. Hillegonds passed away in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on December 23, 2007.
