Biography

Ernest Edwin Ellert was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, on October 5, 1908, and received his early education in the schools of that city. He attended Amherst College and was awarded his A.B. degree from that institution in 1937. He received his M.A. degree from Columbia University in 1940 and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1947.

Ellert joined the faculty of Hope College in 1947 as an associate professor of German and continued in that position until 1960.
