Biography

Clarence Thomas De Graaf was born in Grand Rapids on November 14, 1901. He graduated from Calvin College with an A.B. degree in 1921, and received his M.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1924. He received his Ed.D. in English from the same school in 1945.

De Graaf's teaching experience included teacher of English at Holland Christian High School from 1921-1928, and instructor in English at Hope College Preparatory School from 1928-1931. He was appointed to the Hope College faculty in 1931 and served as the chairman of the English Department. He retired in 1972.
