The collection includes records maintained by the Western Theological Seminary archivist, Elton J. Bruins. Annual reports, correspondence with donors and Western Theological Seminary librarians and administrators, and copies of seminary manuscript and archival holdings document the growth and development of this small religious archives.

Biography
In 1967, Elton J. Bruins was appointed archivist of Western Theological Seminary. Bruins set up the archival collection during his summer vacations from teaching at Hope College. During that first summer, Western Theological Seminary received a generous gift from William M. Kolkman, which was used to fund the archival program. The Western Theological Seminary Archives remained under Bruins’ direction until 1987, when it joined the archives of Hope College and the Holland Historical Trust to form the Joint Archives of Holland.
