Scope and Contents
The collection consists of letters regarding Beukema’s tour of duty in Japan and the Christian Church in Japan. The bulk of the collection is made up of a photo album and photographs taken during his tour of duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy.
The photographs are arranged under three headings: Groups, Events, and Places.

Biography
Henry James Beukema was born in Grand Rapids on March 7, 1911. He graduated from Hope College in 1938 and from Western Seminary in 1941. He served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1965. He attended San Diego State University from 1966-1967 and was a teacher in San Diego until his retirement in 1974.
Henry Beukema passed away on January 21, 2002.
