Abstract
Born in Rochester, New York, on September 1, 1850, to Adrian and Mrs. Zwemer. Received his B.A. from Hope College in 1870, a D.D from Western Theological Seminary in 1873, licensed and ordained by the Classis of Holland in 1873. Served as the pastor for the Fynaart Reformed Church in Fynaart, Michigan, from 1873-1880; Spring Lake, Michigan, from 1880-1883; Alto, Wisconsin, from 1883-1886; Alton, Iowa, from 1886-1888. Served as an agent for Western Institutions for the Reformed Church in America from 1888-1890. Served as the principal for Northwestern Academy from 1890-1898. Served as the pastor for Seventh Reformed Church of Grand Rapids from 1898-1900. Served as Minister of the RCA and professor at Western Theological Seminary, 1907-1916. Served again as an agent for Western Theological Seminary from 1890-1907 and professor there from 1907-1916. He died in Holland, Michigan, on October 5, 1921. The collection includes biographical information, a bound collection of his lectures on practical theology, a 1896 letter about a calling, and undated memorial with photographic print. Additional material is included in the book compiled by Zwemer titled Messages from the Word: Sermons by Ministers of the Reformed Church in America (Holland, Michigan: Holland Printing Co., 1912).
